There are people publishing stories all over the web about how fasting changed their life. Can a weight loss plan created around a complete elimination of calories truly work to reduce body weight? Well, if you think about the process of weight gain – the more calories eaten, the more pounds packed onto the body. The opposite is also true, which could be why fasting has become so popular.

What most people don’t realize is the benefits of fasting beyond its use to lose weight. Fasting can lead to an emotional strength far greater than any other diet plan. When a person fasts, the body is able to slough off the toxins it has accumulated due to poor diet choices that may be the root cause of the weight gain in the first place. The emotional feeling of accomplishment associated with fasting is powerful.

Now that you know the benefits of fasting, you may be asking how to fast? Intermittent fasting is the process I choose to include in my weekly eating plan. The flexibility of the intermittent fast allows me to eat regular food five days a week and fast for the remaining two days. These days do not have to fall back to back and can be changed from week to week.

The intermittent schedule allows for energy conservation which is needed to continue an exercise program at least three days a week. Any type of plan that causes weight loss fast should be paired with exercise to boost metabolism and energy. Exercise has also been linked to better sleep which is essential to all weight loss plans.

It is important to start fasting diet plans slowly. The body needs time to adjust to the new way of eating and slow movement allows the dieter to gain a foothold before negative feelings can grab hold.
